Pros: Vital piece of work on a unique part of American history
Cons: This #$#@%%! book is full of @$#@%%# hippies and dope fiends!
The Bottom Line: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is a worthy read, even if you aren't interested in the drug culture
Review: Sunshine-bright day-glo paint on everything. Psychedelic costumes, red, white, and blue. Superheroes, dressed up in glow-in-the-dark masks or army helmets. Acid. Acid tabs, acid-laced orange juice, acid in the kool-aid - electric ...

Pros: A swirling, mind boggling account of a hazy era
Cons: Wolfe is sometimes condescending towards his subjects
The Bottom Line: If you wanna know the 60s then you gotta read this book.
Review: I have to confess a bias for the Grateful Dead, Beat Generation writers and psychedelics. I always been a fan of Ken Kesey, too. That leads to a special affection for this book by Tom Wolfe. I first read this book nearly two decades ago when I was...

Pros: Captures more than the wonders of acid
Cons: Very poorly written - doesn't detract from the message though
Review: Can YOU Pass the Acid Test? Written in jarringly poor English, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test perfectly recollects on an era in which most of the participants are a bit hazy on the details. This stunning novel depicts more than just the Acid ...

Pros: Tom Wolfe chronicles the origins of the Hippie lifestyle with incredible detail.
Cons: Many people will confuse this book as advocating drug use.
The Bottom Line: In the words of the Grateful Dead, "What a long, strange trip it's been!"
Review: While many people may not approve of the topic of this book, it carries a cross-generational message which we would be well advised not to ignore. Aging baby-boomers with problem children would do well to pick up a copy of The Electric Kool-aid Acid...

Pros: Great reflection on a great era.
Cons: A little hard to catch on to, and some characters sort of fade away.
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent books for many types of people.I read this book for pleasure, but it is especially good if you are doing a history report or something.
Review: Tom Wolfes writing style is absolutely amazing. This is one of the few books I have read that I would actually consider a masterpiece. Before this book I never knew who Ken Kesey was, but now I feel as though I had met him personally and I had lived...

Pros: The rich description of the time era
The writing!!!!
Cons: Editing is sometimes sketchy, characters come and go almost too much
The Bottom Line: To read what it was like for acid heads,it shows you loads of compassion- and you don't have to do drugs to enjoy the book.
Review:
I did not live in the time era that this novel was written and I have not taken serious drugs so I cannot relate to the druggish nature that the novel suggests and almost condones. I do however, relate to loving books and I absolutely was... |
