A Movie Worth Seeing

My wife and I saw "The Color of Paradise" at our local foreign-independent-off-beat movie complex, the Liittle Theatres. We only knew that it was an Iranian film, and was about a blind boy.

The story really is as much about the boy's father as about the blind boy. It is a very sad story about a widower who is trying to put his life back together while having a son that he perceives to be more of a problem than anything else. The father reminded me of the coyote desperately trying to get the roadrunner and always being thwarted in his attempts to get his son away from himself so that he could pursue a new(hopefully) wife. The boy and his father have very different ideas of what life should be, and at times it seems that the boy's blindness is more of a disability to the father than to the boy who is able to cope with his problem quite well.

This film was well written and performed. Like most foreign films the story was presented without high budget special effects or pyrotechnics. I liked this movie, and I highly recommend it.
