Author's Review

I have to admit that I'm not a big reader. Sure, I pick up the occasional paperback every now and then, but I usually lose them before I finish reading them.. I guess I'm just to busy.

A friend of mine read this book and couldn't stop talking about it. She said it was one of the best books she had ever read, that she couldn't put it down. Now she's your regular book worm. She's always reading something and she "loves" almost everything she reads, so I only took her opinion partially seriously. She gave me the book and said that you have to read it. It sat on the shelf for a few weeks and then after about 100 phone calls from her saying "Did You Read It?" I finally decided to pick it up.

I got into the first chapter and ended up not being able to put it down, she was right. But, I figured it couldn't stay this good through out the entire book, so I kept reading. Now, it usually takes me months to finish a book, if I finish it at all, I read this book in a week. It wasn't because it was a short book, it was just that good.

The story is (with out giving away to much) that 2 young brothers are out in the woods by their trailer park when they see a fancy car pull into a very secluded part of the woods. They see a man get out and hook a hose to the exhaust pipe and stuff the other end in his window. The older brother Mark decides to try and save this man's life and disconnects the hose. He gets caught by the man and hauled into the car. The suicidal man turns out to be a lawyer who knows to much about his clients case. He knows not only that his client is guilty of murder, but where the body is. He shares all of this with Mark, who he intends to kill along with himself. Mark manages to escape the car and certain death, but winds up in the middle of a legal whirlwind. He has the prosecuting attorney and investigators pressing him for information and the killer trying to kill him in order to cover up his crime.

Mark decides he needs a lawyer and by chance comes across the kind hearted Reggie Love who has been a lawyer for a very short time. She takes his case and agrees to represent him, with a $1 retainer fee. Mark & Reggie now have to face the legal system that will stoop to anything to make Mark talk and a Ruthless Killer who will do anything to stop that from happening.

This is a great book. Since reading it I have also seen the movie but I prefer the book version. Susan Serandon plays a great Reggie Love, but the story comes to life on it's own in the book.
