very entertaining cat for bored children

What I love about this book is the suspense. A boy and a girl are--well, not quite alone--there are pets--in their home; their mother is out for the day. And this cat shows up. He's pushy and basically rude, it's true. But I'm delighted by the way the children continue to wonder what their mother would say about what the cat is doing. And the author asks what would you do?

The cat's show is not always lively. For instance, I was less impressed by Thing One and Thing Two than by the cat's balancing act and by various household disasters. More on suspense: the fish in nearly constant jeopardy heightens reader interest.

One might wonder what breed of cat he is and think about one of those questionably bred exotic felines--part serval, part bobcat, part jungle cat. Put away the knickknacks when he comes to play--and your mother is out of the house for the day.
