This well-crafted Amy Tan novel will hold your interest

Date of Review:  Apr 25, 2001
The Bottom Line: Recommended: definitely a page turner and a very fast read.
Review: This was my first Amy Tan novel. I never read The Joy Luck Club, but when my book club chose The Bonesetter's Daughter as our April novel, I was eager to see what all of the hype was about.

Things I Know Are True
The novel is the...

Amy Tan's Best Yet!

Date of Review:  Mar 14, 2001
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend The Bonesetter's Daughter, whether the reader is a fan of Amy Tan's work, or just likes a good read.
Review: Last week, Amy Tan was scheduled to conduct a book signing of The Bonesetter's Daughter at Border's here in St. Louis. Unfortunately, she was a "no-show" due to the East Coast snowstorm. I thought I would wait to buy the book until they could...

The search for Truth

Date of Review:  Apr 2, 2001
The Bottom Line: Reading this is being allowed a glimpse into a society of women. It's a trip to a time that is gone, and a place that will never be the same.
Review: If you have ever read an Amy Tan novel, you are familiar with the premise of a first hand tale of the daughter of Chinese immigrants. Usually, the mother and daughter have a complex relationship, and the father has died, and is a secondary figure...

A Mother and Daughter Tale!!!

Date of Review:  Mar 7, 2001
The Bottom Line: A rich vivid tale about mother and daughter, past and present.
Review: This is a story that is a journey between America and past in China. Tan shifts among different cultures and generations on this trip. It is very predictable and also enjoyable.
The main character Ruth Young is a first generation Chinese...

Mothers, Daughters, Ghosts: Amy Tan is Back and Better Than Ever

Date of Review:  Mar 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: Imagine sitting down to a delicious dinner of Chinese food, one that leaves you full and happy. That's how you'll feel at the end of this book.
Review: Amy Tan has always written novels which stop short just this side of autobiography. Books like The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God?s Wife have documented Chinese-American family life with such detail, such sincerity that it feels like we?re having...
