This scared me silly the first time I saw it

by   dolphinboy ,  May 15, 2009
Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: For a suspense film, nothing, in my view.
The Bottom Line: This has always been one of my favorite suspense films, with quiet horror at its best.
Review: A young woman, Melanie Daniels (previously unknown model Tippi Hedren) goes to Bodega Bay, California, a small seaside village, to visit a man she just met and might be falling in love with, Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor). Where did they meet? At a pet ...

Simple Terror: The Birds.

by   talyseon ,  May 4, 2008
Pros: Voted the seventh scariest movie of all time according to the Times in London. Hitchcock.
Cons: Are you kidding?
The Bottom Line: This Hitchcock classic was nominated for an Oscar. Fourty Five years later, it still stands the test of time.
Review: The Birds (1963) Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The Birds is perhaps the best example of getting the most out of something simple. The title is simple, so is the concept, in the small coastal village of Bodega Bay, for reasons unknown ...

Out With Their Eyes: Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds

by   ZentropaJK ,  Sep 18, 2000
Pros: Stunning sequences of violence and mass hysteria - the stuff that textbook examples are made of
Cons: The birds look a little phony; slow pace may infuriate some audiences
Review: Only Alfred Hitchcock could take a premise which is so patently ridiculous - the birds come to life and try to kill everybody - and construct a beautifully realized thriller. Based on a disturbing short story by the macabre Daphne DuMaurier (who also...

by   artbyjude , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jan 18, 2001
Pros: All Star Cast, Vintage Hitchcock, Truly terrifying, because it seems so POSSIBLE
Cons: dated special effects;still amazing Absence of Guano is a notable omission
The Bottom Line: This movie is a timeless classic, creating extraordinary suspense from the ORDINARY
Review: For many years I have been the bane of my new age friends, who listen to New Age Music. You know what I'm talking about: the sounds of water (I like that) coupled with the screech of sea-gulls. I realize that always, deep in the center of my little pea...

Look out, Bodega Bay

by   wonder1981 ,  Jan 30, 2008
Pros: Alfred Hitchcock, thriller, freaky bird attacks
Cons: Nothing
The Bottom Line: It's an Alfred Hitchcock classic that everyone should see at least once.
Review: The Birds is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most famous thrillers. Melanie Daniels is a socialite with a habit of playing practical jokes and keeping her name in the headlines. She runs into Mitch Brenner, an attorney, while shopping in a San Francisco pet ...

Birds Gone Wild!!!!!

by   wickedfirebaby ,  Apr 9, 2004
Pros: Birds, birds, birds. Classic Hitchcock! Super scary & chilling!
Cons: Just look past the age of the film and realize its beauty. No cons.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this classic. A beautiful and creative Hitchcock film, you can't go wrong with seeing it at least once in your lifetime.
Review: What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said... it is a true classic. I originally saw The Birds when I was very young and it has stuck with me ever since. Probably one of the most terrifying films I had ever seen at that point, but I ...

Why you should rent the classics.

by   Eskimo_X ,  Sep 11, 2000
Pros: Just an excellent film
Cons: Not shown on television enough
Review: I choose to rent “The Birds”, in my everlasting quest to view all Hitchcock movies at least once. Unfortunately the video store was one of those cruddy franchised video store that only stocks “Psycho” and “The Birds”. I was hoping to find rear window,...

THE BIRDS--Still Able To Chill And Terrify

by   ecn71270 ,  Feb 22, 2002
Pros: Special effects still hold up; suspense and tension are palpable
Cons: The film's cold, clinical, unemotional approach won't appeal to everyone
The Bottom Line: THE BIRDS continues to be chilling and influential after nearly forty years
Review: After having basically laid out the blueprint for the modern horror film with his groundbreaking 1960 shocker PSYCHO, Alfred Hitchcock re-emerged three years later with THE BIRDS, a very different but equally stunning horror film, based on a Daphne Du...

This just in: Birds Supreme Rulers of Earth

by   Jekl84 ,  Aug 5, 2002
Pros: Suspenseful, Impressive effects, Great plot, Scary
Cons: Unimpressive ending, Acting, Sound
The Bottom Line: Satisfying movie that combines suspense, drama, horror, effects, and plot to really make a thought provoking and intellectual dilemma.
Review: Inevitably, whenever my friends and I go to Blockbuster, there is a debate on what we should watch. As we finish bringing up, then shooting down, movies in the comedy, drama, and action section we wind our way to the back where the classics can be found....
