Fly me to the moon...

Date of Review:  Mar 12, 2005
The Bottom Line: Great moving starring an impressive Leonardo DiCaprio
Review: I love Jude Law. When I heard he made a short appearance in The Aviator I was immediately interested in seeing the movie. I read a few reviews about it and since most of them praised it, I was all the more determined to see it. I finally got the...

THE AVIATOR Flies Blind in Cotton Candy Hype.

Date of Review:  Feb 11, 2005
The Bottom Line: Who was Howard Hughes? Why should we care? Martin Scorsese and John Logan never make that clear. THE AVIATOR: one more over-hyped Oscar Contender? Or a Ham Sandwich.
Review: Opening Credit: AVIATOR

Legend: The Bahamas, 1976.

EXTERIOR -- At Dawn -- B&W -- The Ocean. The camera moves across white beach sands, through a tropical jungle, up the walls of a Moorish Style hotel, through a window; parts the...

The Aviator (2004)

Date of Review:  Jan 18, 2005
The Bottom Line: ...
Review: Howard Hughes lived such an enormous and complicated life that most anyone setting out to tell the story of his rise and fall would be hard pressed to fit even half of it all into the tale. He was one of the world's richest men by the age of 20, a...

Biplanes, Brains and Oddly Prepared Meals

Date of Review:  Jan 30, 2005
The Bottom Line: A worthwhile film to see on the big screen, a tad lengthy.
Review: I'll start off with two observations.
1) Movie length is bladder weakening
2) Mental illness/OCD is depicted very real in this movie

That being said, on to the stuff you want to read. The Aviator takes you on ground and sky level...

The Aviator Soars!

Date of Review:  Dec 18, 2004
The Bottom Line: "...not like any Scorsese film I've seen, and a terrific movie that stands well on its own, Scorsese's name backing it or not... one of the best movies of 2004."
Review: In film, the name Martin Scorsese is not a name to be forgotten. Martin Scorsese has directed some of the best films of all time, including Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. He creates wonderful pictures that people enjoy watching from beginning to end...

Leonardo Aviates into Real Acting!

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2004
The Bottom Line: A few films come out with this quality of depth in character...Amadeus was one, and this is different, but another good movie indeed.
Review: Leonardo DiCaprio has jumped light years from his acting ability in movies like Quick and Dead, though he showed promise in this Western Fun movie!

Cate Blanchett, who already had shown splendid talent in many fine films like Lord of the...

But Can Bill Gates Fly A Plane?

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2004
The Bottom Line: This is one of the better films of the year, especially the acting of the Kates.
Review: The Aviator is a biopic about Howard Hughes. When it opens, we see young Howard, buck naked, standing in one of those $12 swimming pools getting the swab job from mommie.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa nelly!!!!

Mommie has a germ fetish...

The Aviator: Grounded

Date of Review:  Aug 6, 2005
The Bottom Line: Not worthy of the hype, nor the Academy nomination.
Review: There were a number of big time films up for academy awards this past year, including one blockbuster hit featuring a star-studded cast, and directed by a Hollywood legend. In The Aviator, the life of the eccentric Howard Hughes is dramatized for...

"Gwen Stefani looks Sweetly Seductive in "The Aviator"

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2006
Review: This film is a massive biopic of the life and times of Howard Hughes.

"The Aviator" was a extraordinary human exploration piece. It displayed candidly the dilemmas that we as imperfect humans face. This film made me earnestly reflect, on...

The Aviator, as reviewed by a pilot

Date of Review:  Dec 26, 2004
The Bottom Line: Worth seeing!
Review: The Aviator, a biopic about Howard Hughes, was well done and directed, a reliably excellent product from Scorsese. There were some issues, though. I had a slight problem with the casting. Dicaprio with Scorsese worked great in Gangs of NY, but...
