The Flights Of Young Howard Hughes |
|||
|
Pros: DiCaprio, Blanchett, Alda, other support, screenplay, direction
Cons: Howard Hughes became lost in his own world
The Bottom Line: A long, but rewarding, flight.
Review: The life of Howard Hughes is an examination in contrasts. The billionaire, who inherited the fortune his family had made in the tool business, liked to dream big. He wanted to make big airplanes and big films and date the most beautiful actresses, yet he ...

Pros: Great script...DiCaprio is excellent as Hughes, Scorsese shows he's a master director.
Cons: A few period details wrong, but only to nit-pickers.
The Bottom Line: Biopics and long running times usually scare me off, but The Aviator is excellent! Worth going to see.
Review: As the son of a C-46 air freight pilot and a former Avianca flight attendant, I've always had a love affair with aviation. Even though Dad died in a plane crash in 1965, I've never been afraid of planes; indeed, I've always looked forward to heading off ...

|
Pros: Acting, especially Leo and Cate, Scorsese's direction and the music
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: This is the best movie that I have seen this year. I will see it again as soon as possible.
Review: If "The Aviator" does not earn at least four major Academy Awards, there is something wrong with the system. Hmm, that's an idiotic statement because there is something wrong with a "system" that has never rewarded Martin Scorsese with an Oscar in the ...

Pros: Beautifully filmed, exciting to watch
Cons: Not too much mentioned about his early years or the last years of his life
The Bottom Line: A fine insight into Howard Hughes and Aviation in it's infancy.
Review: The Aviator flies right off the screen and into history as a movie that at once tells the tale of obsession and daring while entertaining and delighting the fans of Leonardo DiCaprio in this role of Howard Hughes, one of the most ...

Get High on The Aviator |
|||||
|
Pros: Blanchett (excellent!), DiCaprio (also excellent), hot women, the crash scene, and Kelli Garner.
Cons: Million Dollar Baby was better.
The Bottom Line: thinks Kelli Garner is really hot.
Review: One of the best things about The Aviator is how extravagantly it lives up to its title. It is a film about an aviator, and it has many grand, excellent scenes involving aviation. If you ask me, these are the best sequences director Martin Scorsese ...

Pros: big, broad biopic with good acting, good direction and good cinematography
Cons: a little simplistic, a little heavy on the downer scenes, too many recognizable stars
The Bottom Line: This is one of the better films of the year, especially the acting of the Kates.
Review: The Aviator is a biopic about Howard Hughes. When it opens, we see young Howard, buck naked, standing in one of those $12 swimming pools getting the swab job from mommie. Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa nelly!!!! Mommie has a germ fetish. They're everywhere, ...

Pros: Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett shine.
Cons: Too short.
The Bottom Line: At the end of The Aviator audience in our almost packed theater stood and clapped. There can be no higher complement.
Review: As a child I remember the name Howard Hughes as this vague echo bouncing around the periphery of our household. I didnt know much about the man only that he was larger then life, and then he was dead. He was one of the captains of industry, one of the ...

THE AVIATOR: Scorsese's Spruce Goose Soars High |
|||
|
Pros: Acting, cinematic bravura, direction.
Cons: slight mis-casting of minor roles.
The Bottom Line: A sweeping almost old-fashioned epic boasting superb performances and scenes that might take your breath away. See it on a big screen soon.
Review: The Aviator is a huge sweeping almost old- fashioned epic of a film. If you expect that it will also contain stunning insights or revelations about Howard Hughes you will be disappointed. The movie shows quite a bit, explains just a little, ...

THE AVIATOR--STAIRWAY TO PARADISE |
|||
|
Pros: A sensational Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett; superb production designs; immaculate direction by Scorsese
Cons: Some characters and instances of Hughes' life are less developed than others
The Bottom Line: With THE AVIATOR, the raging bull of American cinema takes ecstatic flight with the story of billionaire Howard Hughes, brought to brilliant and haunting life by Leonardo DiCaprio
Review: "Movies are movies," a character observes in THE AVIATOR. "Not real." Movies may not be real, but often, anchored by a bounty of exhilarating spectacle informed by the tantalizing threat of colossal failure, movies can attain a level of high wire ...

Pros: balanced, well acted, beautifully shot, showcases you don't have to be perfect to be great
Cons: just peters out at the very end
The Bottom Line: The Aviator truly soars.
Review: There's something magical about flight. For centuries man has been fascinated by flight, from the Greek legend of Daedelus to the intricate designs of Leonardo da Vinci to the first flights by the Wright Brothers to the most modern air force stealth ...
