Author's Review
Right up front I must tell you about my complaints about this magazine:
1- It only comes once a month, I know it says monthly on the cover, but I would prefer the Atlantic Weekly.
2- It is too short! I cant help myself I read each issue from cover to cover within a day or two of its delivery.
Over the years I have read many thought provoking articles. One that has stayed with me for many years is a well researched and well documented piece on how Steinway Pianos are built. The author spoke about the people involved, the skills they needed and their love for the instruments they built and for the music that would be produced upon them.
The social and political pieces are progressive in general. This does not mean that they dont provoke discussion, or even heated debate. But the heat that this magazine produces gives light, not just smoke.
In each issue carefully crafted fiction is published. These short stories allow the reader to look at life from the senses of another person. To feel what it is like to be the child of parents that now need to be cared for, no longer the care givers.
This is a magazine for thoughtful people. It is not about todays buzz, whats hip, whats hot and whats not. The Atlantic Monthly is a broad view of an evolving world. It is literate, accessible, but not pretentious.
