Author's Review

Break out of your Stovepipe!

In my professional life, I have a (normal) tendency to read periodicals which cater to general business and Information Systems in particular. Those magazines keep me up to date on Business and Industry trends, as well as giving a fair bit of coverage to national news.

BUT, when I want to read 'something else' -- I turn to the Atlantic. The magazine has no specific topic -- other than you can usually count on a book review, some fiction which may or may not appeal to you, and a GREAT feature article or two.

Take 1 part term paper, 2 parts professional writers, 3 parts educated readers, and you have the Atlantic. Critical thinking elevated to a fine art. Writing directed at people who, when shown two points, could connect them with a line.

Recent articles on 'Dow 36000' hypothesis, Pre-Colombus diffusionism, the meaning of the internet, etc -- all well written -- and possibly thoroughly refuted by readers writing in with opinions.

If you want to get a thinking-persons magazine with stories that go beyond the normal 'business' discipline, get the Atlantic. It is the best two hours of reading I spend each month.

The price of the magazine is trivial -- but the content is definitely not.

Subscribe to the Atlantic.
