True to the Originals

The hilariously macabre antics of the Addams clan in this film are entirely true to the humor stylings of the original. And no, I'm not referring to the television series, but to the cartoon drawings by Charles Addams which ran in <em>The New Yorker</em> for many years, depicting the clan engaged in such heartwarming community activities as greeting Halloween trick-or-treaters with a rooftop kettle of boiling oil.

Of course, not all of Addams' cartoons in the <em>New Yorker</em> dealt with this particular family. But still, they are his most famous creations, and the characters in this movie are remarkably true to the original sketches and the television show based on them.

Of course, the family's sinister behaviors are presented with a humorous twist, as they always have been, making this a movie that the whole family can appreciate, albeit on different levels.
