Author's Review
My first exposure to Mary, Mary was their song "Shackles" on BET. I was very surprised to hear a song that was blatantly Christian on a mainstream cable television station -- but was pleased nonetheless. I was immediately drawn to the song ... and to the group.
Wondering what else was on the album, I looked up Mary, Mary on Amazon.com, and was able to hear snippets of a few other songs. Thankfully, I was impressed with what I heard!
That weekend, I took a trip to Best Buy, and convinced my rap-loving husband that this CD was worth buying. He compromised, he could get an Eminem CD, I could get the Mary, Mary CD. The result: he loves them BOTH! Finally! A CD that we both can enjoy in its entirety!
Since I've had the CD, I've shared it with my inlaws (who danced along with us to it on a long road trip), several friends at work, friends on e-lists -- all who thank me for introducing them! So thanks to the women of Mary, Mary for bringing Gospel back into the mainstream music -- it's a powerful witness!
Just a quick run down of my favorite songs -- there is only 1 song on this CD that I skip through, and I'll not share it, because it may be your favorite! :) But my favorites are:
#4) Shackles -- the song that introduced me to Mary, Mary -- it's obvious why this was their first single! "Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance! I just wanna praise Him! I just wanna praise Him!" This song definitely makes you want to get up and dance!
#5) Can't Give Up Now -- this song has very powerful lyrics, and is probably my favorite on the album. "I just can't give up now. I've come so far from where I've started from. Nobody told me the road would be easy, and I know You haven't brought me this far to leave me." I may have misquoted that line a bit, but the basic meaning is there. It's very powerful!
#12) Still My Child -- another powerful message written in this "prayer".
#3) What a Friend -- this is my husband's favorite. It's a really neat remake of the popular hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
I just can't give this album enough accolades. I recommend it to ANYONE very highly!
