Tha Carter II was when Lil Wayne was in the process of transitioning from stereotypical rapper, to lyricist extraordinaire. It is also probably most famous for being the time Lil Wayne first claimed he was the "Best Rapper Alive." The best tracks are Money on My Mind, Fireman, Best Rapper Alive, and Hustler Musik. Fireman and Hustler Musik were two of the singles released and did decently on the charts, but are really better than the public thought. Fireman is a track where Lil Wayne opens up his metaphorical wordplay and Hustler Musik is a track that demonstrates the serious side of a street hustler. Money on My Mind has a flawless beat by the Runners and some great wordplay by Wayne. But all anyone wants to talk about is Best Rapper Alive and rightly so. The beat is phenomenal and Lil Wayne unleashes his metaphors on the track as an initial demonstration of why is claim is verified. For example, "I'm busy I got paper to real in/G-d I hope they snappin at the end of my rod/I hope I'm fishing in the right pond/And I hope you catching on to every line." The duplicate meanings of every line in the song and every line in the metaphorical pond is outstanding. He is now noted for his metaphors and this track was one of his best.
