Author's Review
When the topic of calculators comes up in the beginning of every math class and physics class, I can proudly say that I have the right one. I have used the TI-73 calculator from my 7th grade math all the way to my Calculus 2 class in college, and that is not limited to a couple of science classes along the way as well. I bought the TI-73 graphing calculator for 70$ at Walmart, a superior offer for a tool that can do so much.
Usability
While there are a few calculators out there that can do more math functions, and process more equations, the TI-73 is much more usable than higher capable calculators. Why? Have you ever used a TI-89? It's not a calculator, it's a computer. The menu's are hard to find and the overall placement of the buttons are just confusing. All in all it would take a life time to figure out that "calculator" let alone take a math test. Instead, the TI-73 offers easy to read menus, and an owners manual that won't take a life time to read. The buttons are organized in a way that you can read them and understand what operation it will perform when you hit it.
Durability
Now, owning a calculator for 9 years is a thing of praise and beauty. Especially if it's a TI-73. In my experiences over the years with this useful tool, I have noticed that other calculators will break at the slightest drop. I have dropped my calculator down a two story staircase (on accident) and it has not even affected it. Another item of durability that the calculator posseses is battery life. In all the 9 years of using this fine product, I have only changed the batteries 5 times. It uses less battery life than a TI-89, which you have to change batteries once a year.
Universal
With all the dandy functions that the TI-73 possesses, I can use it for any math class I want! It doesn't matter if you are taking a trigonometry class, or a physics class, this calculator will supply the demand of this ever changing world.
Value
All in all, I think that my calculator has paid for itself many times over. It was usable the first time I turned it on, and has helped me gain a better understanding of math and science. A TI-89 you would have to take a class on how to understand it, then try to use it, and in the end would be getting more confused of how to work the calculator then spending time focusing on the real thing that you are trying to learn in class.
Bottom Line
You should defiantly buy the TI-73, because of it's usability, value, durability, and it's universal capabilities. But don't take my word for it, buy it yourself and see how you will be saying that this calculator can!
