Author's Review
If the CD cover doesn't draw you in with its beyond adorable picture, the music will certainly wrap its arms around you and drag you in. I was on my campus to attend a Caedmon's Call concert and Bebo Norman just happened to be one of the opening acts. I am not an avid listener of Christian music, but these artists may have convinced me to change my mind. I stood awestruck while Bebo performed 5 songs and then I ran back to my apartment so I could purchase this CD. And boy am I glad I did. (It also makes a great gift. Now both of my roommates own ten thousand days.)
I cannot say enough about the music showcased on this album. I understand that Christian radio stations are now playing 'Stand' (track 2) and I am glad that it is getting the exposure that it deserves. With his guitar and well-manicured hands (inside joke), Bebo enthralls his audience, live or through your stereo, with his catchy folk songs with a message. He puts all of himself into his music and it is obvious as you listen.
"...looking for some space to fill." (Stand) His lyrics encompass the college crowd, but they are not limited by the age of the listener. "I've got a little hope here in my pocket, I want to share a bit with you, So be careful that you don't drop it..." (track 4, I'm Alright) Ten thousand days features fast, catchy songs along with slower more somber ballads. "And the greatest of fear is that you'll leave me here/Stranded in this water so deep." (track 9, In Your Hands) The playful beat of 'Selwood Farm' even features a banjo.
I highly recommend this CD and Bebo's earlier work from 1996, The Fabric of Verse. If I could, I would type up all of the lyrics, but I'll leave you with one last line that I believe aptly describes Bebo himself "...my future is so bold." (track 3, The Hammer Holds)
