Canon Zoom Lens Perfect for Every Occasion – Even Portraits

by   shazzle99 ,  Sep 7, 2000
Pros: Durable, Versatile, Fast Auto Focus, Superior Stabilization, Generally Lightweight
Cons: Like all zoom lenses, this is not ideal for those real "close" shots - Use Your Point-n-Shoot at Gramma's 80th Birthday Bash
Review: If you haven’t heard, I like to take pictures. Let me rephrase that. I’m hopelessly, utterly, pathetically obsessed with photography. The addiction began when I was just a small child, who stole my parents’ camera and went hog-wild at the zoo. My...

The hidden gem of the Zuiko Digital line!

by   rfman ,  Jul 17, 2006
Pros: Excellent macro performance, very sharp, lightweight, inexpensive.
Cons: Not weatherproofed. Maximal aperture is not extremely fast.
The Bottom Line: Superb sharpness and macro performance for the price. Unless you require a weatherproof lens, this one is a no-brainer.
Review: Continuing my review series of Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses for the Four Thirds system digital cameras, I’ve chosen to review the ZD 35mm macro lens. This lens is part of the “budget” range of lenses, and is currently the only lens capable ...

Expensive, yet still a bargain!

by   LaBruja ,  Jun 12, 2000
Pros: Image stabilization.
Cons: Expensive
Review: This lens had barely hit the "streets" when I first tried to buy it. Advance publicity had made it such a hot item that it was unavailable for weeks. By that time cooler, more sensible minds had convinced me I shouldn't purchase it. I bought a...

A wildlife photographer's dream

by   boerewors ,  Sep 7, 2000
Pros: stability, speed(IS off), versatility, price
Cons: weight, decreased speed(IS on)
Review: History:

I have always been fascinated shooting wildlife (animal and human) in their natural habitat (My favorite: a trip to Kruger National Park, South Africa). This sometimes requires an extremely steady hand and/or a really fast shutter...

My only lens

by   Abel2 ,  Sep 5, 2002
Pros: Large Range (75mm to 300mm), Image Stabilizer, Quick Auto Focus in good light.
Cons: Bad Auto Focus in low light
The Bottom Line: Fun lens for closeup and distance photography
Review: This is currently my only lens! It is a little bit big for taking close pictures (min focal length is about 5 ft). I think the only other lens I need is a short focal length lens (24mm to 50mm). The lens is physically large but works great! The...

Great Lens for the Money

by   hsurden ,  Feb 6, 2001
Pros: IS works great - Improves ability to take hand-held shots several stops; Good sharpness!
Cons: Heavy; Slightly dark colors at full zoom
The Bottom Line: This will improve your picture taking by helping to eliminate blurring caused by shaking. Buy this lens over any other zoom for your Canon.
Review: This lens is about the best you can do for the money without resorting to the heavy special glass professional lenses. It's bulky, but the Image Stabilization (IS) dramatically reduces blurryness due to shaking. It's worth lugging the extra weight of...

A solid higher-end consumer lens

by   huntzinger ,  Mar 9, 2005
Pros: If you want a lightweight & effective 300mm lens, this is a great choice.
Cons: Some reports of incompatibility with the 10D digital body.
The Bottom Line: Strikes a very good balance between weight, cost and optical performance.
Review: Its always hard to get the perfect lens. Especially if you don't want to spend a ton of money. In the "ton of money" catagory, you have Canon's "L" lens series. Generally, the prices start at $1000 and go up from there. Even if you do have the ...

Canon 75-300 III USM: Inexpensive and handy!

by   soulgrind1 ,  Jun 19, 2000
Pros: Low price, nice lens range to have
Cons: fairly high aperture (f/4-5.6)
Review: This lens was very cheap, and very nice addition to my gear. I bought the lens for a little under $200 through an internet retailer. The 75-300 range is very useful in many situations including close-ups and portraits.

I want to stress...

Bringing the Action Up Close

by   cchan006 ,  Apr 28, 2000
Pros: Inexpensive for its features, great value
Cons: Autofocus motor is slow
Review: After purchasing the original Canon EOS Rebel second-hand few years ago, I realized that the 35-80mm lens that came with the camera did not have enough magnification to bring auto racing actions up close. So I decided to start shopping for a zoom lens. I...

For the price, not a bad lens.

by   andgott ,  Mar 28, 2008
Pros: Light, Very inexpensive
Cons: OK build quality, Somewhat soft images
The Bottom Line: At this price point, it's a great lens. Don't expect too much of it, and you won't be disappointed. It's a great telephoto zoom for most users!
Review: If you have a Canon Digital SLR, and just the kit lens that it came with, there is no doubt that you will sometime find yourself wishing that you had more zoom. Face it- That 18-55 that the camera came with just doesn't get you up close- where you really ...
