Get the IS version if you can afford it--not the best of Canon's offerings

The Bottom Line: There are better choices. If you need high focal length a single lens may be a better choice. Not up to Canon's usual high standards.
Review: I bought this lens at the same time I bought my digital rebel body because I wanted a somewhat long zoom for shooting the tigers at busch gardens (from several hundred feet up on the bridge). For what I wanted it for, 300mm just isn't quite enough...

A solid higher-end consumer lens

Canon 75-300 III USM: Inexpensive and handy!

Construction: poor... It has a "cheap" feeling. The rings are not tight, so the controls are not precise. You can hear some pieces ratteling when you shake...
