Author's Review
I started receiving Teen Vogue magazine a few months ago, although I am not sure why. I never bought a subscription or responded to a free offer. In fact, I didn't even really want it. But a free magazine is a free magazine, so I decided to at least look at it.
The first thing I noticed was that massive number of ads in the magazine. Now I know they need ads to pay for making the magazine, and a fashion magazine should be expected to have fashion ads in it. But there are so many ads that it is hard to find any articles in there! Also, I feel that some of the ads are inappropriate for teenagers. Some have scantily clad people or people in suggestive positions, something that would be better left to magazines geared toward an older audience.
Of course, the majority of the articles are based on fashion, although there are usually one or two that are not. It is interesting to see the different takes on what can be considered fashionable. After looking through the pictures, I really do hope that these fashions stay on the runways and not on regular people. In my opinion, almost every outfit pictured in there is hideous.
There is one article I look forward to reading though. Every month, they feature a teenager who designs their own clothes. Often, these teens make better looking clothes that anything coming from the famous fashion designer's fashions pictured in the magazine. This seems to be the only part of the magazine that actually has a teen in it.
I know that I may be down on this magazine because I am not big into fashion. But I do like reading about lots of things and this magazine seems more like an ad catalogue.
One thing I recommend about this magazine is the size. It is a bit smaller than the traditional magazine size, which makes it great for stowing in a backpack without taking up a lot of space. I think more magazines should be that size!
Overall, I do not recommend this magazine unless you are an aspiring fashion designer. If you are looking just to purchase the latest fashions, I wouldn't recommend this magazine at all, nothing in there is really wearable out in the real world. In fact, as far as I am concerned, most of it is downright ugly. But if you are a teen who wants to see pictures of runway fashions and this season's latest thing, this might be the magazine for you.
