A great set of DJ headphones
Date of Review: May 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: These headphones will do the job, and do it well.
I bought these when I first bought my DJ setup and I was worried that they might not be all that great. Every other DJ I know owns the Sony MDR-V700 but the truth is when I tried them out I just really didn't like the way they sounded or fit on my head. So I went online and found these headphones and I trusted the Technics brand name to deliver quality, and it did.
These are great headphones. I own the RP-DJ1200 and the 1200A is even better. My headphones are very very loud, I spin trance and accurate sound in my headphones is absolutely crucial. When the speakers are really really loud I can always crank the sound up on these headphones so that I can hear the cue track loud and clear.
The muffling capability of these headphones is as good as the V700s, I tried both on at a party one after the other to see how the outside volume changed when putting them on and the Technics were easily as good if a little better do to the way they fit. They seem a bit different than most headphones at first but after the second day, the fit feels great and the way the fit muffles is a very welcome feature.
It comes with a small stereo jack to large jack adapter, it is gold and with screw threads so that the mini jack screws in nice and snug with the adapter which I haven't had any problems with.
The headband is very adjustable and fits my narrow head. Also they are water resistant, I had them plugged into my CD player (due to their low impedance, the sound is still very loud and great but will drain batteries like there is no tomorrow, keep in mind they are DJ headphones) and it started raining, and they didn't take a tiny bit of damage. They are rugged too, I don't think they will ever break, no matter how much folding, tugging on the cable or anything. They fold into a small little bundle and have a nice carrying pouch.
And finally, I am pleased to not just have the same headphones as everyone else and it is always nice to have the Technics brand name on the headband, great turntables and great headphones.
