Reading made Simple!
Date of Review: Oct 18, 2000
As a homeschool mom in my fourteenth year I have seen my share of learn to read programs. I have taught two of my children who to read with How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy lessons. My five year old is using it now too. I cannot say enough about this book. It is great for the beginning homeschooler as well as the "veteran". Clear, simple instructions for the teacher. Simple but well done lessons for the student. The book is visual oriented but draws on both auditory and kinesthetic skills also.
Using sight, sound and touch to reinforce the lesson. Using phonics as it's basis it does the job well and the kids have fun learning. My children loved the silly stories that went along with the new words. Also teaches sentence and punctuation recognition.
By the time your child is 3/4 through this book he will be reading on his own. This curriculum also has the added benefit of being inexpensive! $20.00 or less for a complete reading program. We have also found it available through the local library. You might try that so you can see it for yourself before you by it.
