Product Review

Very Disappointing

by   gjurgem ,   May 4, 2009

Pros:  Compact, Good manuals, Easy set-up

Cons:  REALLY POOR SOUND REPRODUCTION, Requires copy protected recording media, Poor value for the cost.

The Bottom Line:  It is a waste of time to copy your vintage LP's to CD with this equipment.  The sound quality and fidelity range are very poor.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I have hundreds of old LP's from the 60's, 70's and 80's that I can no longer use in my home sound system.  My wife bought this equipment as a gift so I could save the classics from years of collecting.

The equipment works well although the turntable is kind of flimsy, but it required no set up and the instructions were easy to follow.  I was a bit disappointed to find I had to use Audio CD's since they are more expensive and somewhat difficult to find.

I've recorded about six LP's so far and like other reviews here, I found I have to manually select tracks.  This is pretty time consumming and means the automatic system is virtually worthless.

But the biggest disappointment is the sound quality.  This turntable uses a ceramic cartridge which means you lose virtually all of the bass quality from your original LP's.  You end up with about 2/3 of the fidelity of your original recordings.  On primarily vocal albums, you get the vocals but with a lot of treble.  High soprano voices sound so high they are almost painful.  On albums with full orchestrations, forget it.  They sound like only half of the orchestra showed up and that is primarily the violins.

This piece of equipment is a big disappointment.  It is very pricey and not worth the cost.
