Not worth the $20 I paid for it. Not a bad product.

The Bottom Line: I'd try the $8 Handstands model for cooling or likely an $8 fan system to put underneath the notebook. The Targus item here is simply useful for tilting.
Update: 7/12/07:
Rubber didn't take long to become smooth. Now the only real benefit to using this item is kinda absurd since now the laptop simply slides down all the time. Will I still use it? Probably. But it's ruining the underside of my laptop. Have had to reinforce my COA's (the reason I have two is I've got one for XP Pro and the free upgrade to Vista Biz as well) Which are very slowly rubbing away thanks to Targus. /

Probably more an express review, but basically I was going to buy the Handstands rubber model for $8. But saw the Targus model and Targus is a good brand and I bought it. It was a minor mistake and I let Targus know it.
Unlike Handstands stuff which tends to be well made, but looks cheap. Targus looks well made, but is flimsy in feel. This particular item doe nothing to help cool off my Dell Lattitude D820 using Vista Biz. You are basically buying the Targus name, not the quality.
Whats worse is that for a $20-30 item, it comes with zero instructions. The website is better at instructions. Laying this item completely flat like the picture on the box is completely pointless. My D820 is perhaps an almost 16 inch wide notebook. Making the side area's for maybe a mouse and something on the other side completely useless.
Then using the web instructions, folding it in half, the grooves don't cover the area that would need the air the most. Thats under the CPU which is a Centrino Duo. It gets almost scalding hot in that area. Sure I can't feel it now because it's 2 inches off from my lap, but it still gets warm. My $8 fan system that I plug in to the usb port is more effective at cooling my notebook off.
So my main complaint for the moment is the notion that this cools of a notebook. It doesn't. But it's great at tilting your notebook and making one feel safer about not snapping ones USB mouse transmitter or USB card in half. But I can't imagine this lasting a year.
