The Bottom Line: If you know photography then this is no slouch in the performance arena and its not leaving you with a lens that only works on APS-C digital SLR's.
This is a 35MM or full frame lens optimized for digital photography. THIS IS NOT AN APS-C FORMAT LENS.
Therefore it is only giving a 44mm to 108MM zoom range on a DSLR APS-c format camera body with the smaller sensors.
So of course it will not appear wide enough at its widest setting.
Here's the advantage of this lens.....it's optical qualty and the speed is almost perfect for this caliber of glass. It rivals more expensive lenses from the Nikon and Canon camps and does it at a fraction of the cost. And the fact that it is a 35MM format lens...it will compliment the newer Alpha900 full frame SONY DSLR perfectly without the APS-C cropping. And when mounted on the Full frame body it does produce a true 28 to 75mm focal range allowing for a true wide angle with zoom capability.
Bokeh is excellent. And the pictures to expect from this lens are sharp. It is slightly heavier than the APS-C format lenses but as it is a 35MM format lens that is to be expected. It is well built and sturdy. Great for sports/action and will focus quickly when mounted on the a700. Not sure about the lesser model SONY DSLRs. But if the a900 is supposed to be a Full Frame improvement over the a700 APS-C then it should be expected to focus fast on the new flag ship camera body as well.
