The big boy in my bag

Coming from an F1 to the eos line I have found this lens is modest in weight. The metal shoe is a nice touch, that leads to a smooth coupling on the elan. my camera came with a piece of s___ lens, this was my replacement and I have loved the attention left for the fans manual focus. The camera seems to have a better grip for manual focus than many of the modern autofocus lenses that I have perused.

I am a big fan of the Canon configuration of this lens. My father has a newer Minolta Maxxum and bought the minolta version of this lens because I have been so happy with this lens. I think the Canon is better in that the autofocus motor completely disengages in manual focus. this does mean that if you are adjusting a polarizer it will shift the focus slightly, but in the long run the mechanics are going to last longer.

The auto focus has a bit of noise to it, so in acousticly sensitive conditions I suggest using the manual setting. The auto focus is a bit sluggish compared to the Ultrasonic lenses, but I rely on the camera to confirm focus, not choose my focus.

I carry either Tamron LD or their aspherical lenses because I think they give the best optics without spending a grand. In a 35mm print the difference between Tamron and Zeiss is harder to discern.
