Author's Review

If you can find one of these older lenses, grab it. I have compared this lens and the newer "D" 70-300mm Nikkor lens on my Nikon N80, and found this lens to be a little sharper, and less distorion at 75mm and 300mm. If you are looking for decent results, and do not want to drop over $1000 for a 80-200 2.8, then this would be my first choice. If money is no option, then go with a 28-70 2.8, 17-35 2.8, and the 80-200 2.8 D lenses.
This lens is a slow f/4.5 to 5.6, but it is a solid lens for someone on a low budget. My current system includes: Nikon N80, 80mm 1.8 Nikon, 28-105mm 3.5/4.5 Nikon, and this 75-300. I chose to get some good lenses, instead of getting the F100, and have not regretted it. It is a little bigger than the 70-300.
