Product Review

Essential Magazine!!!

by   davidp24 ,   Jul 12, 2006

Pros:  Colorful magazine, very informative, gives good recommendations, easy to find in all supermarkets

Cons:  It can't cover everything, like daytime talk show guests, in advance

The Bottom Line:  I highly recommend this magazine for all the great information it supplies on TV shows, movies, cable programming, sports, etc.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Quality of Gossip: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I love the new format and size of the TV Guide, even if it is more like a magazine now. I always buy it at the supermarket when it first goes on sale so I can pinpoint and mark the shows that I want to watch and tape record for the week. The programs are presented in an easy to read fashion and is a must for anybody with cable. I like the feature for each day where they give you their "best bets" or "must see" for that day. That is helpful sometimes. I also like the way they tell you who will be on the late night talk shows each day. They are more comprehensive than my daily newspaper in this matter. {Another great way to keep up with the talk shows is by logging on your computer to the "late night talk show" site. This has also helped me quite a bit. It has basically all the talk show guests listed for the daytime as well as the nighttime.} So the combination of the computer with the TV guide keeps you very well informed. Last week, the TV Guide recommended 4 shows on the game show network (which I never watched before) and they were great - it was 4 old "What's My Line" shows with the celebrity guests being Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, and Willie Mays. These were classics!! A funny thing happened when Joe DiMaggio came out to sign in and the audience went crazy. One blindfolded panelist, I believe it was Arlene Francis, said "I haven't heard such a roar since Monroe was here." The audience reaction then almost gave it away, but they didn't. Anyway, my point is that without the TV Guide recommending that programming, I wouldn't have known about this. TV Guide also printed a list of all the morning concerts of the Today Show, the Early Show, and Good Morning America for the entire season. This has been very helpful because I like to tape record them while I am at work. TV Guide is my favorite magazine because it fits into my lifestyle - I love music and like to record a lot of it from the TV. Sting once said "I Want My MTV." For me though, "I Want My TV Guide!!"
