Author's Review
I know you have heard of reading circles. I belong to a family of reading circles. We do not read online material, instead we read magazines. When one person is finished with her magazines, she passes them on to another family member-until everyone has read the magazines. At this time, the magazines are either returned to their owner or donated to my work.
Most of the womens magazines were already being subscribed to. So, I decided to give Time a try.
Time has proven very successful in the circle because the magazine provides fresh news on a weekly basis. While some of our circle are stay at home moms, we all have things we have to do and do not always have the timeor desire to watch the local news. (exception being the weather). With Time magazine, we can still keep up with the world yet read it on our own time.
I have learned so much from Time magazine. In the past few years, I have watched in alarm as more American jobs are being moved to Mexico. Our small part of the state has lost 3 major factories alone. By reading Time, I see that Kentucky is not alone in the lost jobs.
Another thing I have learned from Time, is that it is easier said than done when approaching illegal aliens (immigrants). By reading an editorial piece, I got to visualize and understand all the hard work and planning not to mention abuse that many Mexican aliens go through just to cross the US border. Most of the time, there is no job waiting on the other side, no home to go to, no food; instead many aliens are just returned to Mexico-a few thousand dollars broker, and a little wiser.
I used to think, why dont we just close the border? But now that I have read several issues of Time magazine, I see how that would be impossible.
It was Time that showed me the devestation on parents/teachers faces at the time of the Columbine school shooting. Also, Time did a follow-up piece pertaining to where the school shooters were at this time and their possibilty of parole/rehabilitation.
Time always has a political article, something in science-brain stem cells was last week,(that would also fall under moral ethics), economy, interest rates/taxes/tax cuts and human interest pieces. Something for everyone.
I have a 2 year subscription. With this subscription I recieved a free watch and a computer program. The watch is still working, although the watch band broke within 6 months. I gave the computer program to my neice.
Time also offers some of the best photography out there. Their photographers have the unique style and talent similar to the Life photographers.
Great photography, interesting news pieces, current events. These are the reasons I chose and continue to choose Time magazine.
