Author's Review
If you are looking for an HDTV on a budget, than this TV is for you!
While Olevia is far from a top tier name brand TV manufacturer, they sure do produce some incredibly good looking products. Once this TV is hooked up and the settings are properly tuned, it is truly hard to tell the difference in picture on this TV from many of the other "top" brands.
Features
HD cable channels look amazing in 720p - not to mention how great PS3 and Xbox 360 pictures appear. One great feature of this TV is the ability to store preset picture settings for different inputs. This means that you can have separate setting for your cable, DVDs, computer, and video games... all at the touch of a button.
Picture
The 16:9 ratio also is ideal movies as there is much more useable screen real estate utilized. I would also suggest getting an up converting DVD player to use in combination with this TV, as the picture will be truly amazing, especially if you are coming from a regular tube TV and standard DVD player!
Inputs
Yet another plus to this TV is amount of useful inputs. You will have more inputs than you know what to do with! Naturally you have an ample amount of the components, S-videos, Rcas etc. There is also a VGA input so you can hook a computer up to it... what an awesome monitor! Not to mention the bread and butter of this TV, the two HDMI inputs. I have read that some people only have one HDMI port on their 537H; however, mine came factory direct with two. You will see the best quality this TV has to offer through its HDMI ports. You cable and video will look amazing through HDMI!
When talking about the benefits of this TV, I cannot neglect to mention the cost. You can walk away with a 37" LCD HDTV for the same price as a top tier brand 19-24" TV. Incredible quality for an incredible price - truly ballin' on a budget!
The "bad"
Now with all this praise you must think that surely there has to be negatives. Correct you are; however, I feel that you are going to have negatives for any brand TV. In this case the good simply outweighs the bad.
In my opinion, one of the main things that keeps Olevia out of the "mainstream" quality TV big boys is the distinct lack of customer service. You will get a 1 year warranty, and any problems with the TV will be addressed ... it is just a huge pain. While I have been lucky enough to have a perfectly functional 537H, others have not.
Customer Service
In a nutshell the "over the phone" customer service is about as fun as getting a hot nail shoved in your eye. Be serious, be stern, and be relentless... your problem will get taken care of.
You will have to pay out of pocket, with no reimbursement, to have your TV shipped back to Olevia. Once your TV is there, they will take their sweet time addressing any problems and following up with you. Hopefully within a month (or two), you will received a factory refub TV. As previously mention I have never had to endure this fantastic process, so all my comments are second hand.
Sound
The only other negative that I can think of is the not so amazing speakers built into the TV. They lack clarity and at high volumes with have a slight crackling sound. Personally this is not a huge issue with me as I have always used an external receiver and speakers with my setup. The TV speakers are muted 99% of the time. It would be nice if they were able to be removed by methods other than a chainsaw or sharpened battle axe.
All in all, the Olevia 537H is a high quality TV that will rival the picture to much more expensive brands - at a ridiculously low price.
