Sylvania DVR90VE DVD Recorder / VCR Combo

We have an extensive VHS collection that we want to transfer to more stable media. We have found that the machine plays well enough and recording is not that hard (though it took a bit of puzzling to figure out how). Our major problem is all the problems we have had with it. The VCR died, then we had to take it back for a tune up, then the DVD died. We had to wait 2 months on Funai (the owner of Sylvania) to send a replacement board for the DVD. The first board to arrive was bad and the repair shop sent it back. The second appears to work (we have had the machine back for only 6 hours so we don't know if it will hold up). The only nice thing about it is that they sent an upgraded board which can handle 4x to 8x DVDs. Ever try to buy a 2X now? Thank goodness that they upgraded. We also found that their customer support is not very good. Overall, we recommend avoiding Funai and Syvlania products.
