You get what you pay for - cheap

The Sylvania DV220SL8 DVD & VCR combination is a low cost unit. Don't expect too much from it. The feel is very much like a plastic toy - not much metal went into this one!

Picture and sound are OK for a deck with a price this low. Operation is easy and straightforward. Controls are limited, but easy to access and use. Remote is surprisingly good for the price.

The main concern that I have is the durability. You would be tempted to buy this for the kid's room, but you may want to think again. The DVD tray is very flimsy looking, especially where little hands are involved. The entire DVD mechanism is plastic (except for motors and a few parts.)

The VHS mechanism isn't much more rugged. It seems to be stamped out of light metal with a lot of plastic parts. In my line of work, plastic means breakage when used without care.

Overall, this deck would be better suited to a teen's room, an office or den, or a room where it would get some use, but not constant use or any abuse.

If you buy this to keep the kids entertained, you'll have to keep it out of their reach.
