Author's Review
Seeing as how it is the olympic season and all and I thought I would give Sydney 2000 a try. I went to the video store and rented it. Shortly after I started playing, I found that renting this game was a mistake. This game is not at all what I had suspected. I will tell you why this is a game to stay away from.
Gameplay: 5/10
There are a total of 12 events in this game but don't be fooled, only about 4 of them are actually worth playing. There are the diving, swimming, biking, triple jump, javelin, clean and jerk, hammer throw, plate shooting, high jump, and a few other boring events. They may sound like a cool idea to put in a game but they are not even fun. You can enter the World Tournament and compete against a bunch of computer opponents in each event, in which you will lose all of them because this game is too hard. I don't mean it takes skill. All you need is fingers to push very rapidly. Every event use button mashing, taking all of the skill requirements out of the game.
Graphics: 7/10
This is one of the only good things about this game. The graphics are pretty good in this game. All the runners and divers look very detailed and fairly nicely textured. All of the objects in this game such as bikes javalins, and guns are a little bit choppy, but nothing really annoying. Overall good graphics.
Sound: 7/10
What are the olympics without commentary?? Sydney 2000 has nice commentary for almost every event. They are very detailed and informative in their talking. The sound effects also nice. The splashes, grunts from weight lifters, and bikes all sound real.
Value: 5/10
You play all the events, get beat by the computer every time, and after that you really don't feel like playing anymore. No secrets to unlock or anything. Just a game that the company did not spend much time on.
In conclusion, if you must give it a try, then rent it. It is not worth the money to buy it. Just wait for "Virtua Athlete 2K" or "ESPN Track and Field" and stay away from this game. Trust me on this one.
