Don't bother - doesn't work and not worth the money

I found this humidifier when searching for a replacement for my old Sears console humidifier. I was attracted by its small size, elegant looks, and quietness.

Years ago I owned a small ultrasonic humidifier that I found to be more nuisance than it was worth because of the fine dust particles it shot into the air. I was worried about the same problem with this unit but was reassured by the filter that promised to prevent the production of microscopic particles as in the older units. I purchased a year's worth of filters to go along with the unit.

On arrival, the unit appeared to be very well made, with sturdy plastic and no cheap parts that looked like they wouldn't last. It was easy to assemble and fill. I followed the instructions to soak the filter unit in water for 24 hours before turning it on.

The next morning I woke to a room filled with a haze. The haze was so thick it appeared as if a fog had developed in the room. Over the period of several hours, this gradually dissipated but over the next few days my worst fears were realized: the unit was producing the same fine dust as I remembered from years past.

I tried using filtered water and replacing the brand new filter to no avail. The dust continued to be produced and soon there was a visible layer over every surface in the room.

Added to this was the fact that the unit barely raised the humidity level in the room ten points. I quit using the thing and went back to my old console model, which did a much better job despite being noisier.

I do have to admit this unit is quieter than the console types but what a mess!
