A Winning Fighting Game
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2006
The Bottom Line: I recommend this game for anyone who's searching for a good fighting game. Yes, I know that the Gamecube's now an "old" console, but just borrow the game and play.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is a semi-superior fighting game, where you can take the role of one of Nintendo's finest video game characters and fight to the finish.
I can't say that this is the best fighting game that I've played, but I also can't say that it is the worst. It falls in it's own category... But I have to say that this game is something one can play to thrash your fury at a computer nemesis. A good stress-reliever? Yes. Awe-inspiring game? Maybe.
This was my first Gamecube game... I bought it along with the console. And I thought it was GREAT! That was back in 2001, though... but I can still relate to what I felt.
I first played as Zelda. I had only seen her as the seemingly helpless Hylian princess from The Legend of Zelda, but when I saw her in action, I was really impressed with Zelda's fighting ability. The game delivers a show-y essence that captivates anyone... even picky little me. The characters flow like liquid in a serene river... Or a rapid one, I don't know. My only concern is why it is rated T for teens when there is no severe violenc i.e. gore..
No matter who you play as, no matter how hardcore of a fighter or how goody-goody you may be, disregarding the reason why you are playing (stress relief, hate for one of the characters, fun, etc.), this game is excellent. Not perfect, but worthy.
