Smash-tastic Game!
Date of Review: Jan 12, 2002
The Bottom Line: This game is worth buying the Game Cube for -- whether you like multi-player action or playing alone, go get it!
Super Smash Brothers Melee is the best Game Cube game available. I played the original Smash Brothers and loved it and this goes beyond my highest expectations for a sequel. They've not only added new characters, but they've souped up the single player game by making it longer and rewarding you with trophies and adding an adventure level, which takes place in several characters old levels from their games (you run on an F-Zero track, fight monsters in Link's dungeon, and escape an exploding planet (Metroid)). The multi-player is so much fun to play, especially since they've added so many different features and game play styles. Don't want to just knock each other off the board? Well, battle over coins or earn the best style points. Nintendo's also set aside at least ten special types of melees, which all play totally different. There's slow motion, sudden death, giant and miniature character battles...
Personally, I don't get a chance to play multi-player very often, but I have no problem busying myself with the new many special events for the single player -- like Yoshi protecting its egg, attacking Zelda only when she turns into Sheik, or battling an unlimited number of faceless battlers.
