A good quality iron

I bought this iron at Target for about $20 after a Black and Decker failed. One problem I had with the B&D was pouring water into it. Water went into two oval slots in the nose of the iron. If the water goes in too quickly and both slots get covered, the B&D will overflow and spill water. The Sunbeam does not have this problem. It has a very generous opening under a flip open cover in the nose. The filler cup that comes with it makes it easy to fill without spilling.

The Sunbeam also produces a more consistent and larger amount of steam than the B&D. It requires a fair amount of coaxing to produce steam unfortunately. It has a tendency to stop steaming if it has been put back on its heel plate. Only vigorous shaking of the iron with it in the horizontal position and wiggling the steam selector will start the steam again . This happens two or three times in an ironing session so it does become annoying.

It has a no drip feature which seems to work well. The non-stick soleplate is a plus.

Target had a Panasonic NI-C55SR which normally sells for $40 on clearance for $20 so I bought and tried it. It works much better in steaming, never requiring any coaxing. The water carrier is completely removeable making it very easy to fill and empty.

One advantage the Sunbeam had over both B&D and Panasonic is that both those models do produce some drips in the "shot of steam" mode. The Sunbeam did not. The B&D and Sunbeam had the non-stick soleplate which I prefer over the stainless of the Panasonic.
