good, basic mixer

I bought a Sunbeam because I loved the retro look and I also loved the price - only $130 for 450 watts which was more wattage than the comparable KitchenAid at a much better price. The mixer does a good job for cookies, cakes, muffins, or dough for bread. I have not used it for mashed potatoes. It has multiple speeds and came with three different kinds of beaters and two sizes of bowls. I use it at least once a week and have owned it for two years without any problems. The motor does emit an odor if used for any length of time but I haven't been too concerned about that cause my Cuisinart does the same thing! This mixer comes in a variety of colors and is a great value for someone looking for a basic mixer. I love being able to turn it on to whip egg whites, and walk away to do something else (impossible with a hand mixer!) Like other reviewers, I agree that the button to release the beaters is difficult to use. I do not have arthritis and it sometimes takes me several tries to get it to "catch." I have had no problem with the tilt mechanism. I would recommend this mixer.
