Nice ride

Date of Review:  Feb 26, 2003
The Bottom Line: Nice ride and convenient station wagon and SUV features.
Review: Great cross between a station wagon and an SUV. The standard large tires and all-wheel drive make the ride very smooth and the handling is good. I'm five feet two inches tall, and on the model with the manual seat adjustment I couldn't get high...

Disappointing, in many ways

Date of Review:  Oct 21, 2003
The Bottom Line: Stick with Front Wheel Drive. More predictable handling, better fuel economy, less things to go wrong.
Review: I have owned a 2003 Subaru Forester XS since October 2002. Since then it has had problems with the ABS (three trips to dealer), No-Start condition (two trips to dealer) and the A/C (one trip to dealer). There is also intermittent noise from the...

Forester XS+ - much better than expected.

Date of Review:  Jul 21, 2003
The Bottom Line: Go and test drive it. You will be surprised.
Review: ** LONG TERM UPDATE - SEE BOTTOM OF REVIEW ***

I have a 2003 XS+ 5 speed. It is basically loaded - it just doesn't have the sunroof & leather interior.
The car is a rock in both rain & snow (I live in the mountains of northwest NJ)...

What makes this the best compact SUV? (with link to my review of 2004 turbo)

Date of Review:  Sep 15, 2002
The Bottom Line: Practically packaged, styled very well inside, great handling for this class of vehicle, and affordably priced. The closest I've come to wanting an SUV.
Review: The last few years have witnessed the emergence of a new class of vehicles: the car-based SUV. These are for people who desire the image and interior versatility of an SUV, and perhaps all-weather capability as well, but want ride and handling more...

Practical Luxury Not an Oxymoron

Date of Review:  Nov 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: "A practical car for pragmatic people," I have read. That shoe fits and I am wearing it with great enjoyment and satisfaction.
Review: When I decided to retire my well-loved ten year old Mazda MX-6, my requirements were for a vehicle which would get me to work safely in any weather, offer a proven reliability record, allow me to haul a variety of "stuff" including groceries and my...

Rugged yet refined

Date of Review:  Dec 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: Great car for those who want an SUV like vehicle with AWD without the negatives of an SUV. Very comfortable, fun to drive, safe, and practical
Review: After getting rid of my fiancee's unsafe dull feeling Toyota 2001 Corolla (see my review), my fiancee decided it was time for something safer and better handling. Specifically she wanted an SUV, but didn't want the negatives of an SUV like size, gas...

Happy with my choice

Date of Review:  Dec 23, 2002
The Bottom Line: Definately worth a look if considering a mini SUV
Review: I looked at a few other vehicles before purchasing my 2003 Forester XS. I was in the market for a smaller SUV or Wagon that would hold a fair amount of stuff for weekend trips to Home Depot and the like. Every vehical I looked at had some form of 4...

2003 Subaru Forester, Fantastic Buy!

Date of Review:  Mar 30, 2003
The Bottom Line: Buy one! You get a lot for what you pay. The ONLY option I got was the automatic transmission.
Review: The Specs
If you're looking to buy an SUV and have been doing some research (like you should be), then you probably have read all the technical specs for the Forester from Subaru or some other source, so I'll keep this section short.

A Versatile Wagon

Date of Review:  Dec 9, 2006
The Bottom Line: A very good all around vehicle for a small family. The Forester handles well for an SUV it provides good standard safety features and an excellent all-wheel drive system.
Review: At the time my wife and I purchased our 2003 Subaru 2.5X, we planned on starting a family. The Forester was a replacement for my wife's 1998 Jeep Wrangler. My wife needed a vehicle that can get her to work during the harsh New York winter season...

The Car-Based SUV

Date of Review:  Jan 8, 2003
The Bottom Line: The Subaru is safe, reliable, less expensive, a good performer on light offroad conditions and smooth on pavement. The Forester is practical and the best value for the buck.
Review: There are some things I'd like to briefly mention before I go into depth on my experience with the Subaru Forester.

First, I'd like to pay my respects to the car that I traded in. My old car was a 1988 Mercedes Benz 260E. She was my first...
