Author's Review
I wasn't prepared to look for a new vehicle until this year. An almost fatal car accident forced me on the mercy of the car lot. Thank goodness!
Our family has had Subaru's for years. They are very reliable, very dependable and very easy to drive. This is why I looked at the Forester instead of another Camry.
I was hooked from the test drive. Not intending to purchase my vehicle that day, I was surprised that I purchased the trusty SUV that I test drove. It's black, it's sturdy, and it gets me where I want to go! The options are great on the L model, and I opted for the automatic transmission. While I'm sorry that the V-6 model didn't exist then (It's coming soon) I am pleased by the pep of the 4 cylinder. I have no problem excellerating, and have had no problems with the shifting patterns of the car.
There is only one cup holder in the front, however, and that can be a bad thing. There are two holders in the center consul, in the back, however, so rear passengers are not without. The pseudo drink holder at the top of the consul is worthless, and I use it to hold my cell phone.
There is storage space galore, and with the pull out cover for the back you can hide your groceries or other goodies. I also opted for the front deflector, as this can save the hood of your car from the little rocks that like nothing better than to chip your hood.
The rear seat space could be better, but as with any SUV of this size, that is to be expected. All in all, the handling is a dream. It rides smooth, corners as well as my old Camry, and the fog lights are nifty!
Now, to the safety features. As with anyone in a severe auto accident, saftey comes first. You're not going to roll your Forester (unless you drive like a maniac.) There are dual airbags. Another feature that had me hooked were the doors. There is no metal frame surrounding the window, so you can't slam you fingers in the door (between the window and the frame of the car) and the windows can be pulled back in the case of an emergency (it's not easy enough to do to break into the car.) No jaws of life required in major accidents.
All in all I'm pleased with what I got. It's not a tank. It gets reasonable good gas mileage. I fill up once a week to around 13-14 gallons and get about 280 miles per tank.
I paid 20,000 new for mine including a ten year warranty.
