Stray Dog: Good and Boring

I thought Stray Dog (SD) was a little boring although I do like Kurosawa's Samurai works. I recognize that it is a good film but to me it was just one step above a decent Law and Order episode.

It is a typical rookie and veteran cop flick. Maybe I am desensitized but I am used to cops being underpaid and calloused public "servants". I like cop movies and shows and therefore am used to this cliche.

I'll admit I wasn't impressed by the plot. I think some modern American movies are about as good in the plot category which isn't saying much. I like that Kurosawa was not a one bird dog but beyond that I almost wish he stuck with Katanas and Wakizashis.

Overall, not that bad. Basically a good Japanese CSI movie overly obsessed with the "problem" of gun ownership.

Some Plot Spoilers

The whole Colt obsession bothered me even though I know Japan is tighter with guns than most other countries, especially the U.S. Several times I wanted to tell the rookie to get over it. And I am not exactly a member of the NRA and have no guns of my own nor do I want any.

Somehow, I missed the part about the bad guy evading the cops at the baseball game. Maybe I just turned away from the screen for a minute but I thought it was pretty obvious they were going to get him them but apparently they didn't.
