Date of Review: Sep 1, 2000
Anyone who has listened to country radio during the last decade definitely knows the name George Strait. George Strait makes real country music, the honky-tonk, tear in your beer kind of music. This box set proves that he is a legend in Country Music.
On these four cd's you can definitely hear the roots of the great musicians that influenced his style of country. From Bob Wills to George Jones, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams, George Strait takes all of these and has made some of the greatest country music ever.
This Box Set, which contains Four Cd's is a definite must for any George Strait fan. With 72 songs on this four CD set the $40.00 price tag will be money well spent.
With number one hits like Unwound, The Fireman, The Chair, Amarillo by Morning and Ocean Front Property, just to name a few that are included on this box set, you get to relive the career of this wonderful country singer. He also included some never released songs that you will come to love just like the rest of his music. He shows with songs like Milk Cow Blues, Big Balls in Cowtown that he can sing country swing with the best of them.
This set includes George singing Six Pack to Go with Hank Thompson, Big Balls in Cowtown with Asleep at the Wheel and Fly Me to The Moon with Frank Sinatra. These are songs that you don't hear on country radio. But are a great bonus for this box set.
To put it simply, for the mere price of $40.00 you can get this box set that includes 72 songs, 12 Hit Singles, 31 #1 Hits and 19 choice album cuts from one of the greatest country singers ever.
This is definitely a pure country box set, no crossover rock and roll songs here just good old fashioned country music. That is not George Strait's style, he is just a good ole Texas boy that sticks to his country roots. In country music today that is not something you find often.
If you are a fan of George Strait or just love country music this would be a great addition to your music library.
