Author's Review
Warning: the following movie will make you laugh so hard, that it will hurt.
Step Brothers is the funniest movie of the year, beating out "Tropic Thunder", "Role Models", "Zack & Miri", and some other great comedy that came out in 2008. It is also the most freshman-sophmoric immature comedy you will ever see.
The movie stars Will Ferrel & John C. Reily who become step brothers after the mom and dad find each other and get married. The two start out by hating and despising each other. They go as far trying to kill each other and bury one another. Even worse, they both haven't grown up, so they're living off with their parents (Mary Steenburgen & Richard Jenkins). The two start bonding each other when John does something that pleases Will. The results are hilarious and moronic. They do all kinds of stuff like karate, show their cool toys, and some other stuff that I will not mention. Tired and upset, their dad and stepdad gives them an ultamatium: get a job or live in the streets. So, the Reily and Ferrell team up to, not only get jobs, but save the house from being sold. Desperate, they learn how to use their secret talent and have a video that they present. Their dad (also step-dad) says this is going to be a bad idea.
Bad idea indeed, however, it was funny. Step Brothers is very, very funny. There are so many laughs in here, that you won't see it coming. As you know, the laughs do come from Ferrell and Reily, but they come from the family, neighbors, and other people. The jokes are great, but are very immature and gross as well. I was surprised that step/dad (Jenkins) did not get a heart attack throughout the movie. The dialogue works well in the movie, both in making us laugh or getting our attention. There is also a funny quote before it (Step Brothers) starts. Sure, the guys are creepy, but you'll be surprised by the people that they sorrounded by. One is Derek (Adam Scott), a controlling egomaniac freak that'll make you love and hate him.The cast and supporting cast are great, as well. We, even, get a great cameo scene by Seth Rogen. Also, the movie was directed by Adam McKay, one of the writers, who directed the hillarious Talladega Nights.
One a last note, this movie is the most immature movie I have seen. One after another, you will be surprised how far Ferrell and Reily go. They're also kind of creepy. By the way, after the movie shows the credits, you should keep watching because there is a very funny and shocking scene.
