Author's Review
Jeremy Camp has blasted his way head-on into the world of Christian rock music with his first CD, "Stay". This CD is amazing. From the first song, "Understand", to the last song "In Your Presence", Camp will grab you with his addictive beats and stunning lyrics. He is a healthy mix of hard and soft rock with songs that never get old.
1. "Understand" - The first track on the CD takes off with a strangely addictive (but I'm not complaining!) beat and amazing lyrics that convey the message that no matter what happens in your life, you can still just simply give your life to Christ and all will be well. The first time I heard this song, I was hooked and I never get tired of it.
2. "Right Here" - Dipping a little softer in feel, "Right Here" describes the life and thoughts of a typical Christian in today's tough times and shows that no matter what happens, God is still "not far away" no matter where you go and what you do.
3. "Walk By Faith" - This song is great. It is the living example of the bible verse 2 Corinthians 5:7, "for we walk by faith, not by sight." This song describes the type of life required to live according to God's liking and does so with flying colors.
4. "Stay" - The album's title track, "Stay", is an awesome track that is a sort of request (in good ol' rock and roll form...yay!) from God telling the listener to simply "stay right here in the light" and "not walk away" and to "throw your burdens all away" because in Him, anything is possible. This is a great track and is another one of those addictive songs that never get old.
5. "All The Time" - This track describes the troubles that consumes someone when trying to come up with a description of what God's love is. All that is able to be said is simply "You have given me love" and hope all the time, in all my life. Another quality rock track 8).
6. "I Still Believe" - This is one of my personal favorites on the CD. "I Still Believe" is a ballad-style song showing the hardships that can happen when one falters from his faith. But no matter what happens, God is always willing to forgive and forget, causing the chorus saying "I still believe in Your faithfulness. I still believe in Your truth. I still believe in Your Holy Word. Even when I don't see, I still believe." The reason this is one of my favorites is because I sung this at my church as a solo 8).
7. "One Day At A Time" - Everyone goes through tough days, right? This song's message is just what it says: take life one day at a time and take things as they come. Even if you have been "shut down...broken...can't feel the fullness in my life"
8. "Breaking My Fall" - A ballad is never complete without a comforting message and "Breaking" is no different. Human beings were made in God's image, but with free will they sin and stumble in their faith. No matter what happens though, God will always break the fall and help you back up and this song does a great job of sending that message home.
9. "Nothing" - God's love has not changed since day one, and that's what "Nothing" shows. You think you deserve more love? Think again. You think you're not deserving of so much love? Think again...again. Nothing you can do or say can make God love you more or less than He already does (which in my opinion is pretty cool!).
10. "I Know You're Calling" - In a country-ish sound (but not quite...which is good), Camp shows that God is always watching and calling, waiting for His children (for those of you who DON'T know...that's us) to come home to His open arms. There isn't a day that goes by that God doesn't give the opportunity to come to salvation. Can I get an "amen!"?
11. "Take My Life" - There's no mistaking this one...it's one of the best tracks on the CD (such a shame it's all way way near the bottom). "Take My Life" is a prayer in hard rock form (yay!) asking God to strip all that you are and mold you to His liking; asking Him to "take my life, take my mind, take my sould, take my will; 'cause I am Your's" and "I give it all to You!"
12. "In Your Presence" - Try to describe the feeling when God is in the room right beside you. Pretty hard, isn't it? This song attempts to put words to that feeling and does so very successfully (in my opinion anyway). "And I sing 'Hallelujah'. You are my God." That about sums it up 8).
Jeremy Camp has exploded on to the scene and will continue to rip up the circuits of the modern Christian music charts (and hopefully onto the non-Christian charts, too!). I hope that this track-by-track description of the CD has helped you. Thanks for reading my review and please rate it! God bless.
