A movie that lets you read between the lines
Pros:
One of the most perfect films I've seen - a movies movie.
Cons:
first viewing may feel less than perfect, and it does require a brain
The Bottom Line:
If you like intelligent humor, see it. If you like to read, see it. If you're expecting a normal formula flick, you'll either be disappointed or pleasantly surprised.

Author's Review
This is probably one of those movies where you either love it or hate it - or, to be more correct, you either get it or you don't get it. Everyone I've gone with has liked it, but at one viewing a young guy in the audience walked out - so this may not be your cup of tea. It won't spell out everything for you, and it expects you to work a little bit, but end the end, I think it's going to become a classic, and as quotable as the Princess Bride or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I've seen it twice so far, and it only gets better - parts you thought the director screwed up, or left out, you realize were intentional - and you can see the art in that intention. In other words, this isn't a movie to breeze through - it's a movie to savor, and where you have to think about why the cast and director played a scene in a particular way rather than just moving on because it doesn't fit your standard.
The movie is basically about a movie company coming to small town America, and the havoc each community causes to the other. The movie they are making (and this movie itself) are, in the words of the writer, about a "quest for purity"...and the quotes, at times, are much intended, as you can see when he gives a small smile after that statement.
The cast is played superbly and subtly by the director, and work together as exactly what they were cast to be, like a choir instead of a group of soloists. Even the minor characters grab your interest, leaving you wondering more about their lives.
I haven't seen the other films by this writer/director, but seeing this one definitely makes me want to.
