Make it So..,again.

Paramount Pictures second DVD season of Star Trek The Next Generation is here and it follows up the success of the previous set. The set is packaged in an attractive collectors box and contains all 22 episodes of the second season uncut. The second season had fewer episodes than the previous season, but contained more ambitious stories and effects. The sixth disc has the final two episodes as well as a fantastic making of, behind the scenes, interviews and other information on the show.
The breakout moment of the set is the episode “Q-Who” where the enigmatic Q ) Jon De Lancie firsts introduces the evil Borg to the crew of the Enterprise. The collection opens with an episode entitled “The Child”, which was the only story to be filmed from a planned Trek revival series in the late 70’s. The continual development of the characters is great and the actors having had a season to grow into their roles expand their characters and explore new subject matters. While I would have liked to see the episodes in wide screen format, the transfer to DVD is solid. The sound quality is first rate and the only complaints that I had was that I would have liked to have seen a segment on the events surrounding Gates Mc Fadden leaving the show for the second season only to return for the remainder of the series.
The second set is a great continuation of a fine series and the stories are deeper and more enjoyable as a whole than the first season. One feature I would have liked to have seen was a behind the scenes feature on each episode as to how the idea came about and other interesting tales from the episodes journey from concept to creation. This is a fine set and is a must for all Star Trek fans and worth a serious look for any collector.
