This is the best flight simulator game I have ever played, and it is so fun it will keep you hooked for months at a time. You may play Imperial and Rebel missions on one character, preventing you from having to create two different characters if you want to be able to play both.
It is fun earning ranks in the game, along with lots of different badges and medals for combat. There are training missions, Combat missions, melee missions, and tournaments you can play, and that adds a lot of variety to each mission so you won't ever get bored.
You must play multiplayer to be able to obtain the highest ranks in the game, which can be annoying but also can be fun. Playing multiplayer can be very challenging because you are actually playing against humans instead of the computer, but if you practice enough you can become very good.
This game requires a joystick to play it, so don't get it if you don't have one (unless you want this game so much that you will go out and buy a joystick).
There is a more recent Star Wars flight simulator from LucasArts (X-Wing Alliance), but this has it's advantages over it.
1) The price is a cheaper (obviously).
2) You cannot play as the Imperials in X-Wing Alliance.
3) You can only play in about 5 different ships opposed to about 17 (including Imperials).
4) You can only play against about 3 different fighters opposed to about 40.
5) The system requirements are lower.
In conclusion, this is a very good game but it is becoming out of date and you might want to wait for the next SW flight sim to come out. If you want one now, I would recommend this over X-Wing Alliance because of the advantages I just stated (Unless you are obsessed with graphics, then go with XWA).
