James Bond, Move Over!

by   stacyb ,   Apr 3, 2001

Pros:  Action-packed and not in the least boring!

Cons:  For the kids who get ideas from watching movies...maybe they shouldn't see it.

The Bottom Line:  You won't regret paying full price for this film! Great for the whole family!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

When my five year old began telling me about this a few weeks ago, I was a little leery about taking he and his brother to see it. It was rated PG and I thought maybe it would be a little much for them. He kept telling me, "It's coming to theaters everywhere on March 30". So I knew exactly when it was coming out and he didn't let me forget it! And he's my one who can barely sit through a 30 minute program on tv. Anyway...

Saturday came and it was a dreary day so what else was there to do besides go to the theater? I thought my husband would say "Don't you think we've spent enough money already this month?" (Those are his famous words when we want to do some extra things like this and he wants to stay around the house and work or just relax) but he actually said he'd read some good reviews and thought it would be worth taking the kids to see. It's a real treat for a to go see a movie since we only go a few times a year (not enough movies out there for children!).

I'm not going to give away the plot of the movie because it will ruin it for you. And believe me, you really want to see it...especially if you have kids. They'll love it! It's the best family film we have seen in a long while. (Aren't you getting tired of Pokemon and Rugrats?)

It begins with a mother telling her kids a bedtime story. The girl, Carmen, who is probably about 10 years old, asks for the story about the spy couple who fall in love. As the mother tells the story, you instantly know that she is retelling the story of her and her husband. But the kids don't have a clue that it's about them.

After putting them to bed the parents discuss the olden days when they were spies. Each of them are still involved in the business but try to keep it from the other.

The next thing you know they are called out on a case. They find someone to take care of the kids and off they go! An "uncle" (Cheech Marin) has come to take care of the kids but in a matter of minutes of his arrival, their place is surrounded by the enemy and the kids are sent off to the safehouse..on an adventure that they have no idea what they're in for!

Let me tell you...the action in this movie doesn't stop. My son wanted to go to the bathroom and we had to hurry so that we wouldn't miss anything. My 5 year old was on the edge of his seat, really "into" the movie, the entire hour and a half. And did that time go by fast!

Anyway, their mission takes them to a castle of a fellow who has a tv show that Juni is just crazy about. They're transforming secret agents into characters on the show and they're wanting something that belongs to Juni and Carmen's parents. Something that will help them to take over the world. The character sort of reminds you of Pee Wee Herman at first sight. He's a loony sort of guy who turns out to be a great help and friend to all in the end.

I can't wait until this comes out on video so that we can purchase it. I also believe a sequel would bring in big bucks for these folks! As I said in the title of this review, Look out James Bond...here come Carmen and Juni!

Go see it! You won't regret it!
