Author's Review
I've never really been a Spiderman fan. I didn't watch the cartoons (I liked Talespin and Ducktales better) and wasn't really familiar with the characters. However, the idea of a spider superhero was pretty cool sounding.
When the first Spiderman came out, I was a bit skeptical as to how good this movie would be. After all, we were getting inundated with superhero movies including X-Men, the Hulk, and others. However, I went to see the first one and it turned out alright. The dialogue was trite, the acting was so-so, and the role of Mary Jane Watson I felt was miscast, but overall the action was good, and the story of Spiderman is quite an interesting one.
A few years pass, and I'm excited to see the next Spiderman. With a superb looking trailer and Doc Oc as the supervillain, I was actually looking forward to the movie. This one was great! Alfred Molina as the villain really made things good, and the limited dialogue of the younger actors really made the movie action packed and fun.
Fast forward a couple more years. I'm intrigued by the thought of Venom and Sandman being added to the mix, but as a student, it's sometimes hard to go out and watch movies. So, I waited until the third movie came out on DVD and watched it just last week. It was rather disappointing. I felt the characters weren't developed enough and the action scenes were pretty unrealistic. Sigh. Another trilogy ending in disappointment.
Spiderman, a great idea and wonderfully executed in the 2nd movie, but a disappointing ending.
