Author's Review
I was surprised by how good this game was - most games created about movies are pretty lame. You can jump right into the game and, after a brief (optional) training level, get right into the action! No drawn-out drippy story, no time consuming character generation, no difficult rules to learn.
There are several different modes of gameplay including running around outdoors, exploring buildings indoors, and web-swinging through the skies. Each mode has different controls and methods of combat, all of which are not too difficult to learn and a lot of fun to play.
The game follows the movie plot almost to the "T" (you even wear the spider-man wrestling costume & tennis shoes in the early levels), but with a lot more bad-guys for you to beat up. Your character has a variety of different hand-to-hand combat moves AND various web attacks. As you progress through the game, you can also learn different types of COOL combination attacks. Some of these include flipping kicks, flying elbows, tying up your enemy with web, swinging kicks & punches, web projectiles, web explosions, and too many more to even mention. There are even some optional secrets you can acquire when you earn enough points.
Most of the game is a behind-the-head camera view, but you can easily switch camera angles with the push of a button if you find yourself not able to see the action from where you are standing.
It's even easy to learn how to navigate, web swing, and fight either by reading the in-game tips, or by playing any of the optional training levels. I know, I know....your used to training levels being dull, stupid, and boring, right? Well, these start out a little bland, but then get into advanced moves, tactics, and attacks that you would most likely not figure out on your own. And the sarcastic nararator is pretty entertaining. There are even advanced training missions you can do which are action packed and HARD.
The only thing I have come to dislike about the game so far is that it's easy to get lost indoors. In the outdoor scenes, you normally have a handy radar telling you how to get to your next target, which is REALLY handy and cool. But indoors, you are pretty much left on your own to explore....and the camera angles can get tricky with all those walls. I found myself traveling in circles pretty frequently when trying to find my way out of even the more simple building levels. You eventually get a better feel for it though.
