I bought this machine after reading reviews on Epinions. Our Whirlpool Duet was returned to Costco for every major reason that others on this site have specified.
The Speed Queen is Simple to use, It has no bells or whistles, just Old School technology that is proven to last. You have a dial and two selector switches; one for load size and the other for temperature. Easy! clothes come out smelling fresh and are clean. This is a commercial grade washer with quiet operation.
Speed Queen has the best warranty in the business. They offer 3 years parts and labor and a full ten years on the transmission.
They only build washers and dryers and are proud of their machines. The owners manual is very easy to read and understand. The manual even contains a full two pages on how to clean certain stains. Amazing! I never knew half of them.
There is nothing to hate about this machine. This is the fourth washing machine that I have purchased since moving into a home in 1994. The other three( G.E, Whirlpool) didn't even last and all had repair problems within a year. I wish I had known about Speed Queen then. At least I would have had a warranty that didn't cost me extra at the time of purchase.
I bought the base model Speed queen because it had no bells and whistles or computers to deal with. Sometimes simple is best. While this machine does not include a pre-wash/ soak cycle, the manual tells you how to do this by using the rinse cycle on the dial. What a concept!
Basically this machine does everything our family needs without the difficulty of the modern electric junk washers that are out there. I hope the other manufacturers are reading this. Then again I hope not because Speed Queen is the best kept secret on the washing machine market.
