Author's Review
This game defies being a game. Instead, it's a funktastic journey into what's hip and trendy. With hot dance moves and catchy music, this game may teach you some new steps to take to the club.
I'll start the review by saying the only complaint I have is that it's too short. That's all. It's just too short. It shouldn't take you more than 5 hours to complete and collect everything. You do have to play it more than once to unlock new areas and acquire new people. But 5 hours is your max.
You play Ulala, a funky TV reporter who's been sent down to find out why and how these Morolians are invading Earth. In your quest to find the truth, you must copy the Morolians dance moves to defeat them. Don't be fooled, these aliens can dance. The story is simple and gameplay is basic, but playing it had me instantly hooked. Space Channel 5 makes me smile when I play it.
The graphics are outstanding. Everything has a glassy, futuristic, retro look to it. It's all easy on the eye (as is Ulala). The characters move with such eerily fluidity that I've started taking lessons. What really cracks me up is they way she struts around to the music and as she is gaining support, they join Ulala as her posse following her dance moves like some music video from the 80s.
Here are the controls: Up, left, down, right, shoot alien, save hostage. Easy, right? Sure. If you can use the directional pad and two buttons, you've go the game down. The only thing that can really screw up the controls is your rhythm. If you have none, you'd be better off letting your pet dog play.
The music is where it's at. There are many great grooves that you play to. The songs speed up, slow down, and sometimes stop altogether. Better keep you foot tapping or you're going to lose track of where you are and where you need to be when it comes to controlling Ulala.
The moment I watched the title screen and saw Ulala shaking her groove thang around the space station, I was immediately addicted. This is a fun and happy game t play and I can't wait for the sequel...
